Re: The Superior Species by Walt Trizna

Interesting story. To me, it read quite a bit like a treatment / synopsis / pitch of a novel of the same story. I'd be interested in reading this novel, now. :)

Re: Girl Facing Village by Lee Alon

not exactly post apocalyptic, tho, i'd say pre-apocalyptic? it's a companion story to another short from earlier last year which was also on Aphelion if you wanna check it out. Lee From Casey's comments at the end, I inferred that the Marines had all killed each other, and then when she started cou...

Re: Cat's Eye by Jeani Rector

Good stuff.

I was especially impressed by the pacing -- a lesser story would have rushed to the inevitable conclusion, but this one kept the same pace as we moved closer and closer to the end. The longer it took, the more I began to think that maybe I was wrong as to what would happen.

Re: Last Movement by McCamy Taylor

So, I read this during lunch (MISTAKE #1), and when I finished, I thought, "I just read a poop story." A well-written, thoughtful, interesting poop story, but a poop story nonetheless. :)

Anyone else reminded of the scene from Dogma, with the sh#t demon? Golgotha, I think?

Re: Hollow by Frank Byrns

when talking about backstory, didn't mean the various possible origins as mentioned by Robert and Frank. was mroe referring to the ambient world, i.e the politics, the environment, any sinister goings on in the b/g, etc. that i like, not being an outright superhero fan. it's the setting that counts...

Foray, by Mary Brunini McArdle

Interesting modern day ghost story. I don't know that you need the expository paragraph at the end, though. I was pretty sure what was going on without the narrator explaining it -- maybe without it, there's a bit more air of mystery to it? And I'd be remiss not to point out a technical quibble: jar...

Re: Girl Facing Village by Lee Alon

OK, I read them both. I liked them both -- I think. I'm not sure exactly what I read, though. Interesting post-apocalyptic type piece(s). The Editor's Cut made a little more sense to me, but I guess the Author's Cut was more vague and unsettling, which was sort of the tone of the story, so I can see...

Re: Hollow by Frank Byrns

Was one of these shorts the one with the corporate executive rushing to save the day, then realizing his powers were really not all that special? Lee No, that was my story Too Late the Hero . I enjoyed this story for the fact that it gave a different slant, concentrating on his mortality rather tha...

Re: Hollow by Frank Byrns

... The bigger picture is one implied in Frank's earlier Aphelion appearances (and in stories that have appeared elsewhere). This story takes place in a world where criminals and vigilantes with superpowers [sup]TM[/sup] and/or special skills acquired through training or technology are relatively c...

Still Under Warranty by Arnold Emmanuel

I started reading this month's issue today at lunch (I know, I know, _weeks_ late), and started with this strange little tale. Weird and creepy -- as I read it, I kept picturing my wife's arm falling off into a bowl of popcorn. Gives new meaning to the term "warts and all". Made me think of plastic ...

Re: Hollywood Ending by Frank Byrns

From Mr. Byrns use of the term 'meta-human' (and the disparaging remark about Stan Lee), I deduce that he's a DC man, through and through. I wonder what his powers are when he boots up the City of Heroes game ... Robert M.

Actually, I've always been a Marvel guy through and through. . . but...

I’ve only read a few pieces of this kind of fiction, but if this story is representative of this genre, I’ll happily read more. Nice job. Nate

Nate -

Glad you liked it.
