Nicely done!
I suppose it could be said that Logan actually was fulfilling his destiny; he didn't seem frightened by or opposed to the prospect of giving his life up to restore the forest. He wanted his whole life to be expressed in a song, and he seems to have gotten that.

Fun and Games Interesting part of the Aphelion forum. I suppose the following challenge has been done before and if it has not, then maybe it could be fun. The challenge is this. To write a story, (very short with only one hundred words). The challenge though, is the story is written by everyone th...

I liked this one, it reminds me a little of my house and my cat, but also of one of the very first episodes of "The Outer Limits", titled, "It Came Out of the Woodwork".

Juggler and Znuek by Emil Eugensen
I had to get a comment in for this, even if it's on the last day. Very nicely done, with rich prose and a clever plot twist and multiple important character arcs. I thought it had a little more detail than needed in a few places, but not so much as to derail the story line. I couldn't decide if the ...

Sorry, Rick, no more Fanny. Don't feel bad; you can't carry on much of a relationship with machines anyway.
I just hope "Fanny" didn't tell all of his/her/its friends how to get in.

Good job, Jon!
A blatantly political dig, which I don't usually approve of, but it's historically been part of the job of speculative fiction writers ... and I got a big laugh out of it, to boot.

Smartphone, huh? I'm not looking forward to that experience, myself. I have enough trouble reading the internet on a 23" screen. Samsung makes good stuff; my first cell phone was an AT&T $10 refurb, and it was great. I only got rid of it because it became obsolete; it didn't have enough G's and they...

Congrats, Eddie! My apologies; I didn't make any notes this time. However, when I first read the prompt, I couldn't figure out how a story could be written about such an esoteric and obscure event. O me of little imagination! I voted for "The Lost Traveller", but it was a close choice between that a...

Okay, I'm nominating this for a spot on the Year's Best list right now. It entertains a question nobody asks, and does a very fine job of entertaining with it. Plot, setting, characterization, story arc, character arc, pace, climax, denouement--all shiny--and with a light touch of humor, too. Ten ou...

Poker Face by William Joseph Roberts
William, It struck me that your story was missing a couple things that I was hoping to find. The first was a story about the Mare Inebrium, or a story having substantial setting content or character involvement placing it there. The only such content in the story is in the 17th paragraph, where the ...

Re: There Once Was A Disposable Man... by Dan L. Hollifield
One reason I didn't send it to you is because it's unfinished, and I'm not about to make exceptions to the rules for myself. "Serials have to be complete before submitting the story." That's the rule, and it's a good one for the zine. That hadn't occurred to me, and I was just having a little fun. ...

Hey, what's this "To Be Continued ..."?! Serials belong in my department! LOL! And why do I feel like I've read this before? Suggestion: try to break up your paragraphs; you've got some scary-big monoliths there. No need to change a word, just split 'em wherever you can. Otherwise, it's a smooth, fa...

Poetry is whatever the writer says it is. Write anything, call it poetry, and it is. Sometimes you can tell by the kind of language used. Perhaps you haven't heard of 'free verse' and 'blank verse' ... structure is optional. Have you looked at "Good Hunting"? As near as I can tell, it's all a single...

First, a warning: For those who might get offended by such stuff, this is a pretty sharp-edged satire of right-wing Christianity. Part of the time I was reading this, I was wondering, "Is this some kind of Walter Mitty thing, where the MC is going to be revealed as a pathetic wimp?" But after a whil...
