Nice poem; it does a good job of evoking melancholy.

It also reminded me of a pair of books by Stephen Coonts: Saucer, and Saucer: The Conquest. The first one was quite good; the second one not quite as much. Some guys find a flying saucer in a layer of rock that's like some million years old or so.
