The Harlequin Girl by David Cleden

Post by Lester Curtis »

This story is set in some kind of an alternate universe whose details are a little vague, not just to readers, but to those who live there as well. The setting plays an important part, but the real story is one of how the main character deals with his life.

Mr. Cleden has done an exceptionally nice job of evoking mood, as well as in describing the setting. I had no trouble getting a feel for the place, or becoming invested in the character and his troubles.

The only quibble I have with this story is that the ending seemed a little abrupt or perhaps somehow uncharacteristic of the rest of the writing. Other than that, it's seamlessly done, with graceful pace and flow.

Great job, and I hope we get to see more of Mr. Cleden's work.
I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?
