The Devil's Repent by Iain Cambridge

Post by kailhofer »

This thread for comments on Iain Cambridge's "The Devil's Repent."

At first, I thought this was just another take on the struggle between heaven or hell, that is, what if Lucifer won. As such, I accepted it for this issue.

However, thinking about it as I'm writing this comment, Lucifer really doesn't win when you consider the last paragraph of the story. He loses in that he gets to watch his progeny die until the end of time, and the Watchmaker got his way by not being there, ie, the Watchmaker won in the end. Luci could think of it as success, a victory, every-lasting peace and whatnot, but he doesn't--because of the shortfalls of his worldview.
