The Island by Patrick Niemeyer

Post by Lester Curtis »

This was an okay read, but I felt it suffered from inconsistencies in characterization and character arcs.

At the beginning, for example, Vincent comes across as being the least competent member of the staff, but by the end of the story he has become one of the most important figures in the plot, yet he seems to have done nearly nothing to earn his advancement.

I felt that the plot itself was too vague, also. There's some sort of political intrigue on the island, but the reader isn't given enough information to make sense of it. Vincent keeps turning up at the center of it, but he doesn't seem to know why, and I couldn't make much sense of it either. It seems to have something to do with his heritage, but I didn't feel as though I'd been given enough information to put the pieces together.

I'd like to see more comments on this.

Hope this helps.
I was raised by humans. What's your excuse?
