Mechanical Garden by Claire Fitzpatrick

The beginning gets one to thinking about what the void is and that interest gets one’s attention. The void is part Nazi concentration camp, part mental hospital, part Virtual Reality and part reverie as far as I can determine. The reality of this story is difficult of fathom, but the final solution is clear: Kill all those who are defective.

Thoughts and feelings of a victim sentenced to extermination are told in a dark and rather morbid internal narration. She has epilepsy the condition that renders her unsuitable for life. With drones coming to feed her, and the helmet she must wear transmitting data to the drones, her life is about to be extinguished.

A dark tale with traces of the old television series the ‘Twilight Zone’ scattered though it.

Nice job!
