The Somewhat True Adventures Of Dorothy Quinn--Brian Spiess

Post by Lester Curtis »

Another rollicking adventure, in a sometimes breezy style; a sort of "Conan the Librarian", but with extra changes of scenery. And what setting could be better for that than New York City?

I got some amusement from the author's use of the "MacGuffin Stone" as a textbook example of what a MacGuffin is in literature*.

The plot is rather clearly telegraphed, but the characterization, dialog, and setting are clear and easy to follow, and the two main characters have pleasing arcs.

I really liked the answer to the riddle; I think there may be a chapter in The Book of Lowly Tricks about that.

Good fun.
