The story gets my attention in the first sentence. Nice use of words like–--Darra’s voice chimes with pleasure!
Darra must be a witch or demon that lives off the life of others. With the reference to ‘inhale’ and ‘cool breath,’ I was reminded of the ‘Steam’ in Stephen King’s novel Doctor Who.
I liked the dialogue which sounded natural.
