The forum and the Aphelion

Post by Lipinski »

Been here on this site for a bit. Noticing less and less dialogue between the authors of the Aphelion webzine and the readers.

This leads to questions as to, why?

Some thinking was used. Let's look at this like Spock would have, if only Spock actually ever existed.

1. Less reading of Aphelion stories are occurring.

2. An undocumented side effect of the Covid virus causing a reader to wonder if their reading a menu or an Aphelion story/poem.

3.I lost my car keys.

4. And finally, the most logical explanation is, this world has become so isolated in itself, there is fear in recognition.

There are some great writers out there. And while I abhor the 'participation' reward, anyone who writes and loves writing are doing something great.

I have noticed though, and with great surprise and pleasure. That being the poetry selections are getting tasty.

Perhaps science fiction is over.

Science fiction is about the future, but what is happening now in our lives is more incredible than anything we can imagine.

Indeed. What if this present is soon to be a nuclear holocaust occurring during an A.I. convention of robots planning to destroy all human meat processing plants? Space ships to mars would be jealous of what the computers on Earth are doing while 'they spends years in space shuttling robots to Mars.

(the ships destroy Earth by setting off a cold fusion Mega-Plex Splatterama)

Then, in thousands of years, the human/cyborg cross repopulate the planet.

Or, in response/opinion, I think you have a point. Maybe the Science fiction of our recent past becomes obsolete today because of how 'real' the past that was, is now the reality of today. Jules Verne. Leonardo Da Vincci, Asimov, all those brilliant folks from the past were proven correct.

SO... it is the duty of writers of today to come up with new (censored) Science fiction/fantasy to show just WHAT is going to occur in the future that is more incredible than anything we can imagine.

The actual cause is that there are so many bots trying to post scams and porn that it's almost impossible to get new readers and writers into the Forums to make comments. The staff is so overwhelmed with bot-stomping that participation by real people has dwindled to a trickle.

What a relief!

I thought the worst and was pleased to hear it's only porn and robots. Robots and porn. (there could be a story to be written.)

On a serious note though, thanks for the reply and knowledge. Aphelion has been well worth all the energy you all put into such a webzine.

As Spock would say, "Live long and prosper. Also, models of the Star ship Enterprise can be purchased online at ziggy's house of porn. All major credit cards are accepted."
