Post by ente per ente »

Dear Authors,

For Your knowledge, in case You are interested…

(Early…) Call for Horror/Fantasy/Sci-Fi Submissions…

"BLEAKEST TOWERS”- A Horror/Fantasy/Sci-Fi Anthology

Deadline: until full
Payment:Exposure and Royalties
Short stories up to 7,000 words; Longer stories will also be considered.
Reprints: just in some restricted, limited cases, as long as you hold the rights.

Towers: The Old English term ‘torr’ is from the Latin word ‘turris’ via the Old French word ‘tor’. Those tall structures, much taller than they are wide, are different from other ‘buildings’ in that they serve other functions or were devised to increase the visibility of their surroundings for defensive purposes. We see towers used as fortified portions of medieval castles or in the Iron Age drystone hollow-walled ‘brochs’ found in Scotland. They might also be used for communication or presently as telecommunication towers. Perhaps we can image them as places where Fantasy monks/wizards live, sites filled with ancient books, strange things, magical objects – buildings where secret knowledge can be stored.

There might be future Sci-Fi towers inhabited by humans or aliens. Plan themes from multiple genres, including Dark Fantasy and Horror. And, of course, there are ancient and troubling sites full of moments of terror, revelations, and unearthly finds that most people would stay far away from. There are towers from which any who dared go there, never returned.

Think, for example, of:

“Horror towers are full of strange, evil creatures from this world, or other planets, alien structures that rise to the sky although no one remembers why they were built, or magical towers constructed on defensive walls where strange individuals live, where no one would accept to go inside. Other than buildings of the future, there can be tall and unprecedented towers, that keep hidden dark objects and secrets, which can be deadly for reasons only a few can figure out. These can be scary places, having fallen into ruin, with dark voices that call to victims that stray too close, voices that no one could believe until it’s late to be saved.

What is it about these buildings that have accompanied men since the oldest times and will surely be raised in the future? We might be afraid of them, or may not see what they are built for, and can’t entirely comprehend their strange rooms, their weird turrets, and even their dim dungeons. Perhaps there will be towers going beyond normal heights in an unexplainable way, being either human or alien-made, used to communicate information over infinite distances, and even over different times…”
