Not "dayish", "everydayish"
I don't think there should have been a space between "every" and "dayish". That would have made it clear that the poster meant that the story was, I don't know, routine? Or "slice of life"? It depicted extraordinary events impinging on otherwise dull lives, and horrific (from the viewpoint of the dead Earthmen) consequences covered up to avoid trouble.
You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.
