#24: Revise or Die by Seanan McGuire

Post by Lester Curtis »

So . . . why was so little said in this piece about the actual work of revision? Seems like the whole article could have been condensed down to a sentence or two.

Yeah, we're all special, I get it. But why was there nothing of any substance offered as to what to do about that? Seems like she could have made some specific suggestions, like joining a writers' group or something.

Perhaps you missed last month's installment:

This is an ongoing series, so each essay has a particular focus on a specific idea.

Nope. I've read every one of these, some of them twice. I just found this one particularly weak.

Well, that's fair. As the editor of that section, I'm just glad they're being read.

How about an index to the series?

Rob

Since Seanan's "Thoughts" are a Series, maybe we should have an index like the ones we have for Mare and Nightwatch stuff... That way, people could check the index if they wanted to access earlier articles (tricky when the Back Issues index is lagging behind again -- speaking of which, would you like me to play catch-up on that feature?).

That would be nice. There've been a couple times I got frustrated trying to find an old item there. I don't consider it critical, though.
